Congratulations to CSU Veterinary Health System’s Laura Southworth, who was named the 2026 Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CACVT) Technician of the Year. This tremendous accomplishment recognizes Laura’s dedication, professionalism, and leadership in veterinary medicine and patient care over the last 12 years.
Laura’s inspiration to become a veterinary technician came from the rewarding process of seeing her dog, Ellie, recover after receiving six months of rehab to treat a strained muscle. After earning her veterinary technician certification, Laura contacted Ellie’s physical therapist for an externship, which led to a job with CSU’s Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy service. From that moment on, she has continued to leave a lasting mark on the CSU Veterinary Health System.
In addition to her commitment to patient care, Laura and the Orthopedic Medicine and Mobility team earned a Green Paw certification through the Veterinary Sustainability Alliance, the first in academic veterinary medicine to achieve this recognition.
Laura shared her journey as a veterinary technician in CACVT’S profile story: “I am grateful I get to be part of these journeys and recognize I am just one piece of the whole puzzle between owner, pet, and the entire rehabilitation and veterinary team. I am also grateful I work at a university, where I can share my love for what I do, and hopefully inspire others to find ways to share what they love in the way they interact with those around them, both human and non-human.”
