About the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories play a major role in statewide, national, and global animal and zoonotic disease detection and surveillance, seeking to protect the health of livestock, companion animals, and the general public.

We provide a wide range of tests for all species, with the help of state-of-the-art capabilities and advanced expertise in veterinary diagnostics.

The laboratories are a member of several national laboratory networks, including the USDA’s National Animal Health Laboratory Network and the CDC’s Laboratory Response Network, which coordinate testing for high-consequence and zoonotic pathogens, such as influenza A virus, chronic wasting disease, anthrax, and many others.

We work directly with state and federal agencies – including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the Colorado Department of Agriculture – on pathogen detection and response.

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories are accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.
