Kimberly Jeckel

Dr. Jeckel currently teaches Attributes of Living Systems (LIFE 102), Honors Physiology Case Studies (BMS 496C), Essentials of Pathophysiology (BMS 460), and Pathophysiology Perspectives Capstone (BMS 461). She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of California, San Diego, and her M.S. (in Nutritional Sciences) and Ph.D. (in Biomedical Sciences) at Colorado State University. Dr. Jeckel is currently conducting educational research in science courses focused on promoting student learning. Her past laboratory research focused on genetic regulation of placental and fetal development (identifying genes involved in fetal growth restriction using lentiviral-mediated shRNA and CRISPR knockdowns). In addition to teaching, Dr. Jeckel works with learning assistants in biology, and honors students in biomedical sciences, mentoring and directing their honors thesis projects. She actively contributes to the mission of TILT (The Institute for Learning & Teaching) as a Teaching Effectiveness Fellow, by serving on the advisory board, and teaching faculty courses. She is originally from San Diego, California. Her interests include reading, skiing, running, cave diving, and traveling with her family.
