About Ian
Dr. Ian Alvarez was born in Costa Rica and raised in Miami, Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Science in animal sciences from the University of Florida before completing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College in London, England. Prior to veterinary school, Ian worked for several years as a veterinary surgical technician, an experience that shaped his approach to patient care and reinforced the importance of teamwork, communication, and compassion. His primary professional interests include small animal surgery and minimally invasive procedures. During veterinary school, he also had the opportunity to complete a veterinary externship with NASA’s Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, where he explored the role of veterinary medicine in research and human spaceflight.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Ian enjoys staying active through sports and fitness, traveling, trying new cuisines, and meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures. Having lived and studied in several countries, he values the friendships and sense of community that veterinary medicine creates. Ian looks forward to working alongside the faculty, staff, students, and clients at Colorado State University while helping provide compassionate, high-quality care for his patients.
