Hailey Briquet

Hailey Briquet is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences with a concentration in microbiology and infectious diseases and a certificate in vector-borne diseases. Her passion for scientific research began in wildlife conservation, where she volunteered at a Diamondback Terrapin conservation project and participated in undergraduate research examining the behaviors of captive clouded leopards (Neofelis nebulosa). Now, her interests now center on the complex host-pathogen relationships that drive infectious disease through a One Health lens. She hopes to transform her passion into a career in veterinary medicine, working at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health.

 

During the summer of 2026, Hailey participated in a National Science Foundation-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma. She investigated the effects of temperature on metabolic and water loss rates across three large carpenter bee species (genus Xylocopa). Additionally, she contributed to a preliminary project exploring gut microbiota niche overlaps in these same species and their relationship to foraged flora. This experience enhanced her technological research skills and reaffirmed her commitment to scientific research. She will be presenting these projects at the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biologists conference in January 2027.
